fig. 119Ferox is a four-person holiday home at Parc de IJsselhoeve in Nieuwerkerk aan den IJssel, set alongside the river IJssel and bordered by Park Hitland, an open, rural nature area. The park sits among scenic waterways, and at the entrance you can see the remains of old brick kilns, which give the site a distinctive character. Rotterdam and other Randstad cities are within easy reach, making this a good base if you want to combine time in the countryside with day trips into the city.
The park itself has a brasserie with a snack bar, an outdoor swimming pool, bicycle rental, free WiFi, and washing facilities. Sports fields and playgrounds are on site, along with a dog playground for guests travelling with pets. There is also a charging point for electric vehicles.
The surrounding landscape is well suited to people who like to get outside. Cycling, walking, and horse-riding routes run through the area and connect to some of the quieter corners of the Netherlands. If you prefer a slower pace, the riverside setting and the adjoining nature area give you plenty of space to do very little at all.
This home works well for a small family or two couples who want a green, water-rich setting with good park facilities nearby and easy access to major cities in the western Netherlands without being in the middle of one.
