fig. 119Ferox is a five-person holiday home at Parc de IJsselhoeve, situated along the river IJssel in Nieuwerkerk aan den IJssel. The park sits on the edge of Park Hitland, a natural area of open, rural countryside threaded with waterways. At the entrance, you'll notice the remains of old brick kilns, which give the grounds a sense of industrial history.
The park itself has a brasserie with a snack bar, an outdoor swimming pool, bicycle rental, free WiFi, laundry facilities, sports fields, playgrounds, a dog park for guests travelling with pets, and charging points for electric vehicles. Cycling, walking, and horse-riding routes fan out from the park into the surrounding landscape, making it straightforward to spend a day outside without travelling far.
The location puts you within easy reach of the Randstad. Rotterdam is the closest major city, and from there the rest of the region opens up quickly by road or public transport. That said, the park feels removed from urban noise. The IJssel and the adjacent nature area set a quieter tone, and if you want to stay close to the water and green space rather than sightseeing, the surroundings support that well.
This is a solid base for a group of up to five who want a mix of outdoor activity and easy access to one of the Netherlands' most dynamic cities, without having to choose one or the other.
