What kind of parks are here
The choice runs from apartments for two people to houses for more than twenty, with most sitting around six. What stands out are the beach houses standing directly on the sand, reached along a paved path. There is also a campsite a short walk from the dune crossing.
The beach
There are three beach entrances: De Zandloper, Julianadorp and Drooghe Weert. Three of the beaches in this municipality fly the Blue Flag, which means lifeguards are on duty and the bathing water is monitored. Parking is free. The beach is wide and runs all the way to Huisduinen, a good seven kilometres north.
What else there is to do
Fort Kijkduin is twenty minutes away by bicycle and houses a North Sea aquarium with a tunnel running under the water. From Den Helder the ferry crosses to Texel. The Mariëndal nature reserve lies between the dunes and the village, and the Donkere Duinen near Den Helder are a planted pine wood.
When to go
April and May are the months of the bulb fields, when the polder behind the dunes turns colour. Summer is beach season, but even on busy days there is room enough. Autumn shows the dunes at their best. The municipal New Year dive takes place here.
